Tax calculations on this site reflect the rules we believe were in force at the time the page was written, including the post-2024 Union Budget treatment of equity LTCG (₹1.25 lakh exemption per financial year and 12.5% on gains above that). Tax rules change with every budget, and the treatment that applies to you depends on your fund type, holding period, and personal tax situation. We may not always update pages immediately after rule changes. For your own filing, rely on current official sources or a qualified tax professional.
Simplifications in the model
For clarity, our SIP calculator applies LTCG once at the end of the investment period. The strictly correct treatment is per-tranche: every monthly instalment is its own purchase lot with its own holding period. For long horizons (10+ years) the simplification is conservative and close to the per-tranche result; for shorter horizons or early redemption it can differ materially.
